Wales welcomes you and invites you to donate a ‘prize’ for the Conference Charity Raffle. One per bike, car, would be great.
The Gala Dinner is formal, but not a full ‘black tie’ event. Smart casual with Chapter identification clothing is perfectly acceptable, with Chapter ‘cut’ of course. If you wish to dress up a bit, if you have room on the bike for something ‘National’ for example, that’s fine as well. No pyjamas!
There will be a ‘gift’ presented to each Chapter attending to commemorate the event, but we do not expect a gift in return.
A raffle prize or donation to the charity fund would be appreciated.Â
Being a ‘foreign country’ ourselves, you will notice signs in both English and Welsh.
Sometimes on road signs, English may be first or second to confuse tourists!
However, English is a common language and you should have no difficulties in shopping. If you hear people speaking Welsh, they’re not being awkward, it’s just their ‘first’ language. They will switch to English to speak to you.
You will hear ‘diolch’ (thank you) – ‘croeso’ (welcome) and you will find, further on, a few words and phrases to help if you wish to try them.

It’s no good shouting – does dim pwynt gweiddi. 😂
Pint of beer please – peint o cwrw plis, plis is slang really, of os gwelwch yn dda.
It looks like rain – mae golwg glaw arni. It’s raining – mae’n glawio. 😂
I want my phone call! – Dw i eisiau’n galwad ffôn.
I thought it was 30 – Rodden i’n meddwl ei fod yn tri deg. (Tri deg, three tens, or ddeg ar hugain, ten and twenty)
I shouldn’t drink that – Ddylun i ddim yfed hwnnw.
Dinner is ready – Mae cynion barod. Lunch box (or packed lunch) – Box bwyd (pecyn bwyd)
Unlikely Welsh phrases
